On the 21st of May 2010, the Mail & Guardian (Local South African Newspaper) newspaper's Cartoonist depicted our beloved Nabi (S.A.W) in one of his cartoons. Unfortunately even though the Council of Muslim Theologians on the previous Thursday night through a court interdict, tried to stop the newspaper from publishing the cartoon, they we denied the interdict allowing the newspaper to publish the cartoon. The Lecture Titled "Response to the Cartoons - 1st Edition", was the Jummah lecture delivered by Sheikh Sulaiman Moola in one of the local Masjid's in Johannesburg on the day the Cartoons were published. This publication provoked outrage among the Muslim organizations and individuals within South Africa, who baned together to form the United Muslim Forum of South Africa who requested a meeting with the newspapers management. After a Meeting with the Mail & Guardian management, the news paper communicated its regret and apologized at the Meeting for the harm caused by the publication of the cartoon. They added that in light of the reaction to the cartoon, the Newspaper would refrain from publishing images of our Beloved Nabi (S.A.W) while it reviewed its editorial policies on religious matters. The Lecture Titled "Response to the Cartoons - 2nd Edition", was the Jummah lecture delivered by Sheikh Sulaiman Moola in another local Masjid in South Africa, a week after the publication of the Cartoons. "And Verily, You O Muhammad (S.A.W) are on an exalted standard of Character" [68:4] Both Lectures delivered by Sheikh Sulaiman Moola are available in the Downloads Section. |
